Two women filed a lawsuit against McManus, claiming he sexually assaulted them during an overseas flight to London during the 2023-24 season when he played for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The women were working as flight attendants.
The Commanders had signed McManus to a one-year, $3.6 million deal on March 14. The lawsuit, which seeks $1 million from McManus, was filed on May 24 in Duval County Circuit Civil Court, ESPN reports.
Dan Quinn said he first learned of the allegations on May 27th and declined further comment due to the situation still being under investigation. Furthermore, Quinn said he discussed the importance of players informing the team of situations they need to be aware of.
“That kind of communication allows you to come up with some solutions,” Quinn told ESPN. However, this was not specific to McManus' case.
Brandon McManus' tenure ends after he achieved 100 percent accuracy on extra point kicks, 81.1 percent on field goals, and amassed 125 points with Jacksonville in 2023-24. Washington will continue its preparation for the 2024-25 season without him.
Commanders enter new era with a revamped squad
One of Washington's most notable offseason changes was highlighted in the NFL Draft. The Commanders selected former LSU Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels with the second overall pick. Daniels comes in highly touted and hopes to help Washington climb the competitive NFC.
The former LSU football star had impressive college tenure highlighted by several achievements. Daniels burst onto the LSU scene in 2022 after spending three years with the Arizona State football program. He threw for 2,913 yards and 17 touchdowns while leading the Tigers to a 10-4 record with a second-place finish in the SEC standings.
Then, Daniels took a leap like no other in 2023. He amassed a collegiate career-high of 3,812 yards and a whopping 40 TDs. In the process, he helped LSU to a 10-3 record which saw them finish third in the SEC. Daniels' tremendous efforts earned him the Heisman Trophy.
Hopefully, Daniels will see similar if not greater success in the NFL. He joins a Commanders team desperate for improvement.
Washington finished the 2023-24 season with a 4-13 record, which placed them last in the NFC East standings. As a result, they missed the postseason for the third consecutive time. Nevertheless, the Commanders are in good hands. Jayden Daniels will have a plethora of talented weapons to help the offense thrive.
Moreover, new head coach Dan Quinn will surely have a master plan to help Washington's defense improve upon their previous showing. The Commanders will have to lock in and execute to slow down the rest of the league's potent offenses. They have everything in hand to be successful as they look to get above the .500 mark and make the NFL Playoffs in 2024-25.
