Commanders facing one brutal truth amid Jalen Ramsey trade buzz

The Washington Commanders are being strongly linked to a trade for Jalen Ramsey despite Adam Peters' blockbuster activity throughout the offseason. They are in win-now mode with the financial flexibility to absorb his contract. That came with inevitable speculation linking the All-Pro with a move to D.C.

However, one NFL analyst poured cold water on the possibility with a brutal reality check.

Ramsey is looking for a fresh challenge. The Miami Dolphins are willing to let the player leave if the right trade offer comes along. Both parties are seemingly going their separate ways, but no deal looks imminent.

That could change after June 1, when the contract implications shift dramatically. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN revealed that talks have taken place between Miami and any willing suitors for Ramsey. The senior insider also named the Commanders as a potential suitor, although nothing has been confirmed.

NFL analyst offers harsh Commanders reality over Jalen Ramsey frade links

Kyle Crabbs from A to Z Sports provided a harsh reality check for the Commanders amid this trade buzz. The analyst acknowledged that Washington makes sense, but the team's lack of disposable assets hurts their chances of landing Ramsey considerably.

"[Jalen] Ramsey was, once upon a time, excited to come play in Miami opposite Xavien Howard back in 2023. Playing in Washington would potentially give him a star running-mate opposite him in the secondary thanks to [Marshon] Lattimore’s presence, too. The Commanders are clearly in the frame of mind to make another aggressive move, such as acquiring Ramsey. They’re a little light on appealing assets for Miami and they’re also on the Dolphins’ schedule in 2025, which may hurt their cause in trying to form a bidding offer."

Ramsey is a top-level performer. He's still playing at a high level despite being made surplus to requirements by the Dolphins. Giving up more draft capital to take on another hefty contract doesn't seem smart, but Peters won't hesitate if he believes it can get the Commanders over the hump.

It remains a long shot, to put it mildly. Ramsey would be a significant addition, but it makes no sense for the business side of things. If the Dolphins ended up releasing the former Florida State standout, it's a different story. But for now, the Commanders probably aren't entertaining the notion.

This is a fluid situation. Peters is always keeping a close eye on developments around the league, and Ramsey's situation would be no different. But they don't have the resources to make Miami an acceptable offer.

It's the brutal truth that cannot be ignored.

Nothing should be completely ruled out, given the way Peters has gone about his business this offseason. Even so, it would be a bombshell of epic proportions if the Commanders pulled it off.
