Commanders GM Adam Peters Offers Tantalizing Deebo Samuel Scouting Report

The Washington Commanders traded for Deebo Samuel in free agency, and general manager Adam Peters knows exactly how to utilize his skill set.

The Washington Commanders knew that getting Terry McLaurin some help in the passing game was a top priority this offseason, and it didn't take general manager Adam Peters long to fix it.

At the scouting combine, news broke that the Commanders traded a fifth-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers for Deebo Samuel to bring in a colossal weapon for offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.

With Samuel making his name as a genuine "do-it-all" player who can shred a defense as a receiver or running back, fans will no doubt get excited imagining what he could do in Kingsbury's system and what that means for Jayden Daniels.

For Adams, who was speaking on the Up & Adams Show, he detailed exactly what Deebo will bring to the offense.

"Anytime you can surround any quarterback with a weapon where they can do the work, they can really make a play out of nothing, that makes anybody better," Peters said. "But I think the way Kliff's offense is run, you can get a catch-and-run guy like Deebo, he can play in the backfield, in the slot, outside, he can go deep, but he can also do a lot of screens. So those things just open up the offense and allow us to be more multiple on offense."

Samuel will be a Swiss army knife for the Commanders as he can help in the run game with Daniels, Austin Ekeler, and Brian Robinson Jr., or he can be the All-Pro receiver and be a great foil to McLaurin, who was the offense's passing game last year.

Given how explosive the Commanders' offense was last year, the fact that they have retained their key weapons and have now added Samuel makes them look better on paper than they did 12 months ago.

Now, will adding Deebo make the Commanders better? In theory, yes, but once real NFL bullets start flying, that's when we will get a better indication.

But as far as what Samuel can do for the offense? Everything.
