This time last season, the Washington Commanders were under pressure to pick the franchise's next quarterback.
Holding the No. 2 pick, the Commanders had their choice of the field aside from Caleb Williams, and the decision was weighing heavily on the organization.
It was one they couldn't get wrong.
Fast-forward 12 months, and Washington has Jayden Daniels, who led the team to the NFC Championship game after a 12-5 season that was undoubtedly one to remember.
Being in the position the franchise is now is certainly a far cry from a year ago for general manager Adam Peters.
"It feels a lot better than last year," a laughing Peters said. "We're thrilled to have Jayden and couldn't be happier with his first year and know he's going to keep getting better and better because not only that's what people do, but that's because of who he is. He's always going to try to improve himself, he's his own toughest critic, and he's going to do everything he can to maximize everything he has."
While Washington's quarterback position has changed, its free agency plan hasn't, with the franchise again armed with a war chest to go shopping. Roughly $78 million is available for Peters and Dan Quinn to fill out the roster and re-sign players needing extensions.
So things will be a little different this offseason, but the goal remains the same for Washington as it looks to take advantage of Daniels' rookie contract.
The offensive line needs reinforcement, and Terry McLaurin needs a running mate.
Both can be addressed in free agency or the draft.
Peters will be keeping a close eye on the scouting combine to see who he might like to add to the Commanders' roster in 2025.
Washington had a superb first season with Peters, Quinn, and Daniels. Now, they must reload and go again.
