The Washington Commanders have gotten off to a superb start in 2024, racing out to a 4-1 record and leaving teams in their wake.
With rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels proving to be every part a No. 2 overall pick, the offense has been humming and scoring points for fun, and that has led some to place Jayden in the early MVP discussion.
Head coach Dan Quinn has preached to his team about not riding the emotional "roller-coaster" after each result, and now Daniels has revealed that he goes through a similar process.
Despite a four-game winning streak, Jayden has a rather short memory of how long he stews on the results.
"This game is very hard, so you got to appreciate the wins, especially in this league, they're hard to come by," Daniels said. "So you got to be able to appreciate the win, so I've been like this win, lose, draw, 24-hour rule, go out there, 24 hours appreciate what happened or having to get to your thoughts if you lost, or win but go out there the next day, it's time to go to work, move on to the next week. What happened last week doesn't matter, don't matter what people are talking about, because next Sunday you got to go out there prove yourself again."
With the Commanders offense under Daniels' guidance scoring at will over the last three weeks (38, 42, 34 points), it can be easy to get a little ahead of yourself, particularly when that is accompanied by four straight wins.
But Quinn and Daniels remain level-headed as they know how easily and quickly things can go south, and this appears to be the driving force behind the fast start.
So, by all means, enjoy the wins, but don't dwell on them too long, and it appears that this mindset has helped the Commanders' new era begin with a bang.
