Washington Commanders' quarterback Jayden Daniels has done some good things in Year 1, and perhaps none more than the fourth-quarter comeback against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Daniels has had clutch moments this year, one against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3, another was his Hail Mary completion to Noah Brown against the Chicago Bears, although there was an element of luck, but against the Eagles, in a 36-33 win, Daniels had to overcome his own mistakes to do it.
Facing a third-and-five with three minutes left in the game, Daniels threw what should have been the game-ending interception. But the defense stood firm and gave Daniels and the offense the ball back with a chance to go win the game - which he did.
Jayden marched 57 yards in 11 plays to throw a touchdown pass to Jamison Crowder with just six seconds left.
In what was a tense moment, given Daniels had just thrown an interception, the offensive coordinator detailed Jayden's mentality in approaching that final drive.
“He doesn't change at all,” Kingsbury said. “You could just tell from the look in his eye, if we get the ball back, we're going to go win it, and that was his feel. That's one of the most brazen throws he's probably made, and I think he was just trying to make a play. But he reset and there was no like oh we lost the game, or that's on me, he was like all right if we get the ball back I'm going to go win it, and that's what the sideline, his teammates, and his coaches felt.”
It was just another feather in Daniels' cap as the Commanders moved to 10-5 on the year, and now, with two games left in the season, Washington has positive momentum on its side with a three-game-winning streak behind them.
In a year where Daniels has had many good moments, his game-winning drive against the Eagles, which was straight after a back-breaking turnover, might be his best of the season.
The new regime is off to a good start under head coach Dan Quinn and Daniels, with the rookie showing every bit of being the franchise quarterback this organization has been crying out for.
