The Washington Commanders, despite reaching the NFC Championship Game last season, have plenty of holes on their roster to fill.
Whether it's improving their offensive line, securing their secondary, or addressing their pass rushing concerns, there are many different places the Commanders can focus on during the 2025 Draft in a couple of weeks.
So when Sports Illustrated's latest mock draft had Washington going out on a limb to draft North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton in the first round instead, many analysts turned their heads.
After all, the team still has Austin Ekeler and Brian Robinson Jr. still on the roster.
"I believe Hampton is the second-best running back in this year’s draft class behind Ashton Jeanty and although the Commanders have other holes on the roster, this pick could put Washington’s offense over the top," Matt Brandon writes. "Hampton is extremely talented in between the tackles with great vision, solid pass protection skills, and is a monster once he gets the ball in space. With Jayden Daniels under center, Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel on the outside, and Hampton in the backfield, the Commanders would have one of the best offenses in the NFC."
There have been rumblings from some scouts that Hampton may be even better than Heisman Trophy finalist Ashton Jeanty, but the prevailing theory is that the Boise State product will go earlier in the Draft.
Ekeler and Robinson are both free agents after the season as well, so Washington's running back room - while not a direct need - could look to be addressed early in the Draft.
With a first round pick, though? That remains to be seen.
