Commanders Named As 1 Team To 'Dethrone' Eagles In 2025

The Washington Commanders are firming as one of the teams to beat in the NFC after a 2024 season that pushed the former NFL laughingstock into being taken seriously as a challenger.

With Dan Quinn and Jayden Daniels helping steer this ship, the Commanders, after another good offseason, feel poised to strike in 2025.

Commanders Named As 1 Team To 'Dethrone' Eagles In 2025

Their division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, are the ones they're chasing, and having split with the Eagles in the regular season before being curb-stomped in the NFC Championship game, Washington knows it can match it with the best.

As such, NFL.com's Jeffri Chadiha has named the Commanders as one of only six teams that can dethrone the Eagles in 2025.

"This season will bring a different set of tests, including adjusting to how defenses attack Daniels in Year 2 -- remember the struggles that the highly touted Texans experienced last year after quarterback C.J. Stroud had exploded onto the scene as a rookie in 2023? -- and whether Washington can handle life as a perceived heavyweight," Chadiha writes

That is a high bar to reach, but the Commanders have the weapons to make a genuine attempt, with Deebo Samuel and Laremy Tunsil being signed to fortify two key positions.

The biggest issue the Commanders will face is not being able to sneak up on anyone anymore, plus, Daniels will be in Year 2, and defenses will now be better prepared to stop what he does best.

Granted, that doesn't mean they will, but Washington has enough weapons to go toe-to-toe with the best in football.

Can they dethrone the Eagles in 2025? They have as good a chance as anyone.
