Before Josh Harris bought the Washington Commanders two years ago, he was the majority owner of the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA, and the New Jersey Devils of the NHL.
Things are different since Harris bought Washington, though. The 76ers and Devils have - in the eyes of Washington fans - seemingly been shifted to the wayside thanks to the Commanders run to the NFC Title game in their first full year under the new regime.
Now with the trust of D.C. fans, Harris is looking to build a new stadium for his improving franchise. And with the plans to build a new stadium on the site of the old RFK Stadium, Commanders fans couldn't be more thrilled about the team returning to its roots moving forward.
And that includes the former Commanders fan in Harris.
“I remember walking down East Capital Street... being eight years old and feeling the stadium would literally move,” Harris said. “An amazing day for the city. Amazing day for our franchise.
“I was raised here... watching is special.”
The new stadium project won't be ready until the 2030 season so the team will need to make do before that for the next few seasons. The mere fact the organization is willing to build a new facility, though, shows how committed ownership really is.
And that will only help enhance Washington's championship window moving forward.
