Commanders Preparing To Replace Aging Franchise Stars

The Washington Commanders may have a young quarterback leading the way, but the perception that this is a young team couldn't be further from the truth.

In fact, the Commanders are considered one of the oldest rosters in the league today. They brought in Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel during the offseason, and already have aging stars like Bobby Wagner and Zach Ertz leading the way on both sides of the ball.

As good as these players have been during their prime, the organization knows they can only rely on them for so long before they eventually begin to break down. It may not have happened last season, but it is bound to happen with an aging roster.

It's why a big part of the Commanders' draft strategy this weekend should be finding quality replacements for those aging veterans.

Whether it's drafting a first-round linebacker, or taking a gamble at a deep tight end class, the Commanders should be focusing heavily on developing a young core of talent around Daniels - not just adding in veterans to go for a title run now.

The beauty of having Daniels is that he'll keep Washington competitive no matter what. The issue with that is that the Commanders can't get complacent with aging stars.

And finding their eventual replacements is the first step to keeping their title window as open for as long as possible at this point.
