Commanders Sign Jayden Daniels Protector in 'Bold Prediction'

The Washington Commanders need to protect Jayden Daniels, but where does the franchise get the upgrades from?

There was a lot to like about the rookie season of Washington Commanders' quarterback Jayden Daniels.

He transformed the franchise, led them to 12 wins, and showed incredible clutch moments as the Commanders advanced to the NFC Championship game.

But there was one thing that wasn't so great. He was sacked... a lot.

Daniels was sacked 47 times in 2024, the sixth-most in football, and for a quarterback who is slightly built, that isn't ideal. While the focus has been on getting him more weapons this offseason, the offensive line can't be forgotten.

And for Pro Football Network, in what they call a bold prediction, Baltimore Ravens left tackle Ronnie Stanley comes to the nation's capital.

"The Washington Commanders have already begun to spend some of their ample cap space on bolstering Jayden Daniels’ supporting cast," PFN writes. "Ronnie Stanley recaptured his franchise left tackle status in 2024. Stanley played all 17 games, the first time in his nine-year career he’s played every game. And while he wasn’t quite his vintage self in pass protection, his 6.5% pressure rate allowed greatly improved from his 9.6% rate in 2023. He also allowed just three sacks in 17 games after allowing four in 13 games the prior season."

Stanley is a great veteran option for Daniels. In 2024, he played all 17 regular-season games and earned his second Pro Bowl nod, so he is still playing at a high level.

The $20.7 APY market value from Spotrac.com likely won't be what the Commanders offer, despite the franchise having the cap space, but if Stanley truly has put the injury bug behind him, it will be yet another veteran in an important position that the franchise has put around Daniels to help him succeed.

There will be a long line of suitors for Stanley's signature, but what is building in Washington might make him turn his head.
