The Washington Commanders continued their strong season with a 27-22 win over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium, demonstrating resilience on both sides of the ball. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels led Washington’s offense to a fast start, allowing the Commanders to control the game early and withstand a late push by the Giants.
Washington’s first score came on its second drive, with Daniels capitalizing on a turnover generated by the Commanders’ defense. Daniels connected with Terry McLaurin on a 1-yard touchdown pass, concluding a short 31-yard drive that set the tone for the rest of the half. The Giants responded with a touchdown, but Washington pulled ahead again with a 1-yard touchdown run by Austin Ekeler, stepping up in place of the injured Brian Robinson Jr., for a 14-7 lead.
In the closing moments of the first half, Daniels found McLaurin again for an 18-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 21-7. Washington entered halftime firmly in control, and although they shifted to field goals in the second half, the Commanders maintained their edge by responding to every Giants’ challenge.
Receiver Terry McLaurin finished the game with two touchdowns on just two receptions and 19 receiving yards, as the Giants defense made him a priority throughout the game. Despite limited touches, McLaurin’s efficiency proved pivotal in securing Washington’s victory and boosting their record to 7-2.
With this win, Washington holds its best start since 1996, echoing the days of Norv Turner’s Commanders. The team now prepares for a Week 10 showdown with the 6-2 Pittsburgh Steelers, a rested opponent whose potent defense led by T.J. Watt and balanced offense under Russell Wilson will be a formidable test. Washington’s rookie signal-caller and emerging offense will need to be at their best to extend their winning streak and retain divisional momentum.
