The Washington Commanders' offseason of business has already gotten off to a nice start with Deebo Samuel coming to the nation's capital to give Terry McLaurin a running mate.
But with an abundance of cap space, the Commanders' shopping spree must continue as they look to take advantage of Jayden Daniels' rookie contract.
However, what could be the next move for Dan Quinn and Adam Peters? Both sides of the ball still need additions, but considering Washington's position, it is in win-now mode, so a move would have to be made with a Super Bowl in mind.
For CBS Sports, in a neat little exercise, did a mock draft for free agents, and in this scenario, the Commanders add some serious muscle to their pass rush, with Khalil Mack coming to Washington.
"The one thing Washington really needs after adding Deebo Samuel out wide? A proven pass rusher for Dan Quinn," CBS Sports writes. "Mack is older, but the Commanders are in it to win it now."
Mack is coming off a so-so season that saw him register 6.0 sacks, 15 quarterback hits, and six tackles for loss in 17 games, but he still made the Pro Bowl. Also, don't forget that in 2023, Mack totaled 17.0 sacks, so there is still some juice left in the tank.
Spotrac.com has his market value at a whopping $23.6 million APY and we know he isn't getting that on the open market, but last season he signed a one-year, $19 million deal with the Los Angeles Chargers. Could something similar happen?
We imagine it wouldn't be as high as $19 million, but a one-year deal to get some genuine pass rush help, especially with Jonathan Allen's future now away from Washington.
The Commanders have needs, but with Samuel acquired for the offense, getting Mack for the defense would be a great piece of business.
