On Saturday, it was revealed that the Detroit Lions would be re-signing defensive end Marcus Davenport. Initial reports indicated that it would be a one-year contract at $4.65 million dollars. However, we've now got some clarification on how Davenports contract is broken down.
For Davenport, he will get $1.65 million dollars guaranteed. In addition to that, his salary will be $1.35 million dollars with a $300,000 signing bonus. That bring his cap hit to $1.65 million dollars with a ton of opportunities for him to earn more money.
Shown in the contract breakdown, Davenport can earn $50,000 per game as an active roster bonus. For example, he played two games last season so if he was playing under his new contract during that time, he would have made an additional $100,000 on the season.
Lastly, Davenport is set to earn a maximum of $2 million dollars for sacks and playtime incentives. Essentially, he's got to be healthy and productive on the field to earn the full $4.75 million dollars of the contract. As for the Lions, this is clearly a low-risk move that could pay off in a big way with how they've structured the contract.
