The Washington Commanders have only won the NFC East twice in 10 years, and there is every reason to think that with Jayden Daniels at the helm, the division's streak of not having a repeat winner in two decades will continue.
Yes, the division's defending champion Philadelphia Eagles are the favorites, but make no mistake, Dan Quinn and Washington are nipping at their heels, and have the weapons to push the Super Bowl champs all the way.
We can't discount a bounce back from the Dallas Cowboys either; but for most, this is a two-horse race, and ESPN's Dan Graziano doesn't think it's outlandish to have Washington win the division in 2025.
"Not much was expected of the Commanders last season, but they were one of the great surprises," Graziano writes. "Washington's 12-5 record put the team only two games behind Philadelphia, and they traded for veterans such as left tackle Laremy Tunsil and wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. in an effort to take the next step and maximize Daniels' rookie-contract window.
"The Eagles still look phenomenal and deservedly will open as the division favorites, but no team has repeated as NFC East champion since 2004. The Commanders have their sights set on bigger things in 2025. It's very possible that the Commanders take another leap and finish on top in the East."
The Commanders' offense will be the reason the franchise wins the division, as the defense, while improved with the signing of Von Miller, still doesn't feel like a top unit under Joe Whitt Jr.
That's not saying it can't be, but the offense will be the straw that stirs the team's drink, and if the defense can stiffen up and improve, considering the passing attacks the Eagles and Cowboys possess, Washington could be in business.
Granted, we are projecting here, but the Commanders, after just one season, have gone from NFL laughingstock to a team capable of challenging for the Super Bowl.
And to give themselves the best shot at doing that, winning the division is the goal, and one that, for us, is obtainable in 2025.
