For the best part of a handful of months, most have known that Dallas Cowboys EDGE Micah Parsons was going to command a deal near enough to $40 million APY.
In fact, earlier in the year, some thought that $35 million APY would be where Parsons lands, but with other deals like Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt, that number has now gone north, and anything less than what Watt got ($41 million APY) won't be happening.
The Cowboys' front office surely knows that the longer they wait, the more expensive it becomes, which is what makes them drag out these deals, strange to comprehend.
Parsons even stated at the end of the season he didn't really care about being the highest-paid non-quarterback, so why wait? We aren't entirely sure, and now Micah has requested a trade with no movement on a deal.
But now comes this Jerry quote from training camp, the day after Micah's request.
“My attitude is the same one I've had,” Jerry said. “I think the world of Micah, he's an outstanding player. He can really help us, but he's got to fit in with what's in the best interest of the team, and that's what the negotiation's all about.”
The best interest of the team Mr. Jones would have been getting Parsons' contract done months ago and it could have been for less than $40 million APY.
Plus, to Micah's point in his trade statement, no talks have taken place about a deal...at all, so how can this be part of the negotiation when there's no back-and-forth? Not a single conversation has been had, according to Micah, which boggles the mind.
So, here we sit, still waiting for Micah's deal, and while Jerry wants the contract to fit into the team's best interest, he's failing to realize that it would have been best for the team to get this done months ago.
Maybe it's time to move on from general manager duties, Mr. Jones.
