FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys (3-4) are on the road this weekend to take on the Atlanta Falcons (5-3) on Sunday. ... and will once again be shorthanded on defense.
The Cowboys are 3-1 in the road this year ... but the challenge to continue that roll is great due to the Friday final injury list leading up to the game.
Quarterback Dak Prescott has had three multiple interception games in a row and has already thrown eight interceptions on the season. The former Mississippi State Bulldog has struggled to play consistently since signing his massive contract extension before the season.
On of the biggest reasons the Cowboys are unable to sustain drives is that they have the league’s worst rushing game averaging just 74.1 yards per game. Granted they’ve only played seven games, so that plays a part in it.
Their long-time rival Philadelphia Eagles have also played seven games and average more than twice the rushing yards that Dallas does. They have to find some way to get this rushing game working. Without it, teams can key on the passing game and just wait for Prescott to make a mistake.
For Atlanta, quarterback Kirk Cousins ranks it he top five of all quarterbacks in yards. He averages 263.3 yards per game, and has thrown 14 touchdowns to just seven interceptions.
It would help Dallas to curtail him if all hands were on deck. But on Friday, Micah Parsons and DaRon Bland were both ruled out due to injury, with Trevon Diggs listed as questionable.
Falcons running back Bijan Robinson is top-10 in the league in yards, and is averaging 4.7 per carry. He will certainly be utilized quite a bit against the Cowboys porous run defense that ranks No. 31 in the league.
This is a pivotal game between both of these teams. The Cowboys need a win to get back to .500 for the season, and the Falcons need a win to stay a game ahead of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
This game kicks off in the Mercedes-Benz Dome in Atlanta at 12 p.m. CT on FOX.
