This offseason for the Dallas Cowboys has seen the culture be put in place, and the standards set, and that standard is a Super Bowl or nothing.
Left guard Tyler Smith stated that as the Cowboys arrived in Oxnard to begin training camp, and believes that this current roster has what it takes to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
But what about head coach Brian Schottenheimer?
Oh yeah, he feels the same way.
“One thing I would say is the hunger I have now, is for the young men in that locker room,” Schottenheimer said. “It's for the Joneses. When we win a Super Bowl, my dad will get a ring, I can promise you that. But these guys over here [Jerry and Stephen Jones], they have Super Bowls. They've won rings. I don't have one, and I want one in the worst way. I'm willing to work my ass off and lead this group of guys whatever way it takes to help them achieve that. But it's really not just for me. If anything, it's more for them.”
Granted, picking the Cowboys to win the Super Bowl right now will get you laughed out of most rooms, but first, the roster has to believe they can do it, which is clear they do.
Secondly, the vision put forth by the coaching staff has to resonate with the locker room, which, right now, we think it does.
All that is left is to bring Schottenheimer's vision to life, but to do that, steps must be taken in Oxnard to dot the I's and cross the T's, which the first-time head coach is hellbent on doing.
Schottenheimer wants a Super Bowl in the worst way, not only for himself and the Jones family, but more importantly, for his players.
