Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs shows off rehab progress with sand workout

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs is two weeks away from getting back on the field when the team hits Oxnard and he’s dropping hints that he’s ready to pick up where he left off last season. Diggs, who suffered a torn ACL in the second week of the season, recently posted a workout clip on his Instagram that shows the second-round selection doing his footwork drills in sand.

The fact that he looks almost as smooth in the shifting sand as he does on grass bodes well for the Cowboys. He’s still wearing compression gear around his left leg for some added stability, but the former first-team All-Pro looks ready to play. Though he mainly worked off to the side with the training staff during OTAs and minicamp, when training camp in Oxnard rolls around, he will begin working his way back into the rotation.

Diggs took to social media to remind opposing NFL offenses of how potent the Cowboys secondary is with him back in the lineup. Even without him in the lineup last season, Dallas still boasted the league leader in interceptions with DaRon Bland playing in his place opposite Stephon Gilmore.

“Me & my Bruddah got like 30 sum Ints,” Diggs tweeted. “Do what you want with that info.”

The Cowboys recovered in stunning fashion after losing Diggs to his ACL tear, thanks in large part to Bland. Bland, now going into his third year in the league, ended up leading the NFL in interceptions and he also broke the record for pick-sixes in a single season. The team felt good enough about the combo of Diggs and Bland for 2024 that they opted not to re-sign Gilmore after his one-year stint.

Bland says Diggs’ return will be ‘something dangerous’

Despite the success he found in Diggs’ absence, Bland is over the moon to be getting his teammate back soon. The young corner gave an eye-popping quote about the recovering DB when asked what fans should expect from his return.

“I mean, a lot of people are not expecting what Tre is gonna come back with,” Bland said at the Reliant Energy Home Run Derby this spring. “I know what Tre is gonna come back with. It’s going to be something dangerous. Can’t wait.”

Diggs was off to a fast start before tearing his ACL last season. In two games, he came down with an interception and forced a fumble, leading the way for the Cowboys’ defense. The former Alabama standout turns 26 in September and he appears ready to make his 26th year one to remember.

The Cowboys corner led all NFL defenders with 17 interceptions from 2020-22. In 2022, he had a career-high 50 solo tackles and three interceptions. Diggs also took two of his 11 interceptions home for touchdowns.
