What an offseason it has been already for the Dallas Cowboys. Starting with the hiring of new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, and then to the exciting results at the NFL Draft. If you add in the addition of potential star wide receiver George Pickens, and quarterback Dak Prescott might just have some new tricks up his sleeve.
That is not all that Dak has now that he may not have had prior to this season. Prescott is heading into his ninth season with the Dallas Cowboys after being drafted in the fourth round with the 135th pick. He has seen his fair share of coming and going of teammates. Some of those departures this season include All-Pro guard Zack Martin, and defensive mainstay Demarcus Lawrence.
With the departure of these long-time Cowboys, Prescott is now the most tenured player on the Cowboys roster. Because of this new "honor", Dak now has a new nickname given to him by his teammates. ...
The team has begun to call Dak "Unc.''
Said Dak: "Yeah, I'm the uncle. The guys in there (the locker room) say that. I'm Unc."
He is seen by many of the younger players as more of "the fun uncle'' type, and is looked up to by many of the team members as well.
One thing that has always been a character trait listed for Dak Prescott, including his time at Mississippi State, was his leadership skills. Being a leader, there is a responsibility to push those on the team who may not know their way, or how to carry themselves. There is an understanding that you should become a mentor to the team to ensure that everyone is pushing for the same goal.
Prescott will be looking to establish chemistry with his teammates, and could be seen as "Unc" for new wide receiver George Pickens. Pickens, who has had a few concerns away from the field, could use a standout year to bolster his chances for a big contract.
"Unc'' Prescott might just be the right guy with enough "new tricks'' to guide Pickens - and the rest of his "nephews'' - in the right direction.
