FRISCO - It wasn't supposed to be like this.
The Dallas Cowboys emerged from their bye week confident they had fixed the issues plaguing the team and entered Levi's Stadium to face the San Francisco 49ers with renewed hope that they could get their season back on track.
While the Cowboys showed some fight and gave as good as they got on both sides of the ball in the first half, holding a halftime lead, what transpired next was typical of the 2024 Cowboys, who lost, 30-24.
A third quarter that was the stuff of nightmares gave the 49ers the advantage, thanks to 21 unanswered points, another Dak Prescott's interception, and multiple penalties.
Dallas rallied late, but it was all for nothing as Prescott was left with one overriding emotion after yet another loss to a team that he and the Cowboys simply can't beat.
“Personally frustrated, as I imagine the rest of the guys are, not getting a win,” Prescott said. “Sitting at 3-4, but I can definitely tell you that nobody's shaken or giving up. Frustration is very high, but it's a long season, a lot [of] division games, a lot still ahead of us ...
"Frustrated. That's the best way that I can put it.”
What is perhaps more frustrating is that the Cowboys felt confident in their ability to turn things around after the bye week, yet the same missteps that had plagued them in the opening six weeks were still there.
And that is after a week of self-scouting and the across-the-hall meetings.
Prescott again turned the ball over multiple times, making it three straight games with multiple interceptions, which isn't ideal for a team that already struggles on both sides of the ball.
That, coupled with being again beaten by their bogeyman rival leads to one emotion ... and a feeling of frustration.
