While seemingly not having much in common on the surface, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey have had an awfully similar last 12 months.
Both stars had injury-riddled 2024 seasons, with both teams failing to make the postseason for the first time since 2020. The 49ers were coming fresh off a Super Bowl appearance in 2023. McCaffrey wasn't able to make his season debut until Week 10, sidelined with achilles tendonitis.
McCaffrey would be shut down for the remainder of the season after four games with a knee injury. McCaffrey racked up 202 yards on the ground and 148 yards in the passing game in his four-game season, unable to find the end zone one year removed from his Offensive Player of the Year Award.
Meanwhile for Prescott, he led the Cowboys to a 3-4 record before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury in Week 9. Prescott threw for 1.978 yards and 11 touchdowns, completing 64.7% of his passes. Prescott was the NFL MVP runner-up the season before.
Back in December, Prescott and his fianceé Sarah Jane Ramos, revealed that they were expecting their second child in May 2025. This announcement came less than one year after they welcomed their first child, Margaret Jane "MJ" Rose, in February.
And now, McCaffrey and his wife, Olivia Culpo, have announced that they are expecting their first child. The announcement came via a joint Instagram post on Monday, with a video revealing Culpo's baby bump and ultrasound photo over the song "Bloom" by The Paper Kites.
In spite of the history on the field between the two players and their respective teams, Prescott showed love to McCaffrey and Culpo with a comment, "Congratulations!!! ❤️" Prescott wrote.
Prescott knows well the world of fatherhood that McCaffrey is about to embark on. At a Children's Cancer Fund event in Dallas in March of 2024, Prescott opened up about being a dad for one of the first times, with his daughter just a month old, calling it "special."
"When you wake up in the morning and you see that baby, you understand responsibilities," Prescott said, with the emotion that most any father would feel. "And everything that I've always wanted for myself, but you want that for somebody else even more. Yeah, it's special."
