It's always fun to think of "crazy" hypotheticals when it comes to predicting a team's NFL Draft moves.
That is the case in NFL Wire's latest collaborative mock draft which features the Dallas Cowboys turning heads with their first-round selection.
With the No. 12 pick, the mock has Dallas selecting Colorado's star quarterback Shedeur Sanders - who, of course, is the son of Cowboys legend Deion.
Woah.
The Cowboys Wire justifies the prediction through a collection of "what if" scenarios that follow the draft.
"Let's get crazy. The Cowboys are going to ride out the next year or two of Dak Prescott under center, who will get tired of having the constant conversation about his job security and wave his no trade clause before the deal expires," KD Drummond wrote.
"Brian Schottenheimer has one year to convince the Cowboys that he's the guy. Otherwise, he's out. Deion Sanders moves into the driver's seat, the Cowboys get at least two first-round picks, likely from a team like Cleveland, and roll into the last half of the decade with a total reboot of the roster."
That's a lot to take in ... I know.
First, we agree that Dallas will likely find Dak Prescott's backup quarterback from this year's deep draft class ... keyword being deep. The Cowboys can easily get a serviceable second string in Day 2 of this draft.
There is no need drafting a guaranteed backup in Round 1 with as many gaps as Dallas still has on the roster. They need an immediate impact out of whoever they draft at 12.
Secondly, however, a splash move like this may be exactly the card marketing genius and owner Jerry Jones has up his sleeve.
His fanbase was iffy about the Schottenheimer hiring process. They've also been bored of the free agency motion.
Want to send a jolt of excitement through the veins of Cowboys Nation? Draft "Prime Time Jr."
It would be the perfect storm.
Does it make a whole lot of football sense? Maybe not right now.
But would it sell? You bet.
Don't forget what this teams runs off of ... and who drives the bus.
Lastly, I'm not sure where Drummond's alternate universe scenario about Dak, Schotty and Deion is coming from. It's certainly a long-term prediction but may not be very believable right now.
Sanders has all the qualities needed to be a star in the NFL, just like he was in college.
Last season, he threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns on his way to the Davey O'Brien Award given to the NCAA's best QB.
Reports showed Sanders' draft stock dipping after his showing at the Scouting Combine, but there is no doubt he is a first-round talent.
If he falls to No. 12, the Cowboys may have a serious decision to make.
Will they draft the best player available, target a much-needed position, or think "crazy" and fulfill a Cowboys' family legacy?
In this scenario ... Sanders might satisfy all of those questions.
