Texas Longhorns star and potential Dallas Cowboys draft target Matthew Golden has the need, the need for speed.
After running a 4.29 40-yard dash at the combine to become the fastest receiver in Indianapolis, many teams needing offensive help, like Dallas, sat up and took notice of the Longhorn. However, based on his latest comments, they might be even more eager to draft him.
With Golden seen as a top pick in the draft, and some even have him over Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan, speaking on the Up & Adams Show, detailed that he ran his 4.29 on a sore ankle, making him think he could have ran faster.
"I think I could have," Golden said. "I wanted to go 4.1. My ankle was still bothering me, and I knew once I ran, my agent told me to take my cleats off."
That is quite the statement from Matthew, and his words would have pricked up the Cowboys' ears.
With only CeeDee Lamb seen as a genuine weapon for Dak Prescott if a game were to be played today, Golden riding alongside 88 would give Prescott two supreme weapons.
Armed with great route-running skills to go with his home-run pace, Golden in Brian Schottenheimer's offense feels like a nice fit. His agility also lets him be a YAC merchant with quick throws, allowing him to do his work in space to pick up big gains.
Golden is most people's pick for the Cowboys at No. 12, and if he can run even faster than his combine speed, should Dallas select him, we can't wait for training camp, where Matthew will put it on show.
