FRISCO — Murmurings of several NFL rule changes had been tossed around earlier this offseason. This past weekend, those and several others were brought to the foreground at the annual owners' meetings.
The most pressing matter involved the controversial "tush push" which has been tabled for further discussion down the road. Other notable changes coming include an adjustment to overtime in the regular season now allowing both teams guaranteed possessions in the extra 10-minute frame.
Kickoff rules will get some tinkering as well with the league looking to generate more returns out of the formation changes installed last season.
Then there are some mandates coming from the league directly. The league is adding the popularized "nose swipe" gesture to the list of triggers for an unsportsmanlike penalty, much to the chagrin of Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
Aside from regulations impacting conduct on the field and the actual play of the game, there are some exciting changes coming for fans. The NFL is updating its policy to allow teams to wear throwback or alternate uniforms now up to four times per season.
For fans of the Cowboys, this means potentially more use os some fan-favorite fits. The Cowboys can now wear their vintage alternates most commonly worn on Thanksgiving Day, donning the simple navy blue star on a white helmet and the navy jersey.
Dallas is not accustomed to changing much in the Jerry Jones era, so those uniforms may stay put on that specific holiday. However, the Cowboys could use their Arctic Whites more often.
These have gained traction as one of cleanest alternate looks not only for the team, but across the entire league.
Again, there are no guarantees the Cowboys stray from their classic looks in both their normal home and away kits. But if they choose, there is certainly an opportunity to please the fan base by keeping these in the jersey rotation.
