The Dallas Cowboys arguably made one of the most significant moves of the offseason, making a blockbuster trade for George Pickens of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pickens has an opportunity to be one of the better wide receivers in the NFL, but there are certainly questions about his attitude on the field at times.
There have been instances where Pickens has been caught fighting with players during the game and not running the routes he was expected to run. That didn’t exactly fly with the Steelers, and isn’t expected to with the Cowboys.
However, since being traded to the Cowboys, it seems like he and a few other players have really started to connect, including CeeDee Lamb. Lamb and Pickens have an opportunity to be one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL, and according to Pickens, per NFL.com, the two already have one of the best nicknames.
“Oh yeah, for sure,” Pickens responded. “Just different type of styles of play. A lot of people over the years got different styles of play, but CeeDee’s a certain type of guy, then I’m a certain type of guy. So, when you mesh that together, it’s like Mario Bros. We definitely can do something special.”
Pickens Excited for Fresh Start in Dallas
‘Mario Bros’ is certainly a good nickname for the two, and hopefully, they bring as much joy to Dallas Cowboys fans as Mario games have to video game lovers.
But there are more important things that Pickens has to consider, as well as Lamb.
Not only do both of them have to figure out how to play off one another, but there’s an opportunity for them to have career years if things go as planned. From what it sounds like from Pickens’ angle, that’s certainly possible this year, as he’s loved his time with the Cowboys so far.
“It’s a breath of fresh air,” he said with a smile, per the team’s website. “The weather out here but also the guys and the camaraderie, it’s different as well.”
Lamb Defends His New Teammate
While everything has gone as planned so far for the Dallas Cowboys, it’s also fair to worry that this could change due to Pickens’ past actions. However, according to Lamb, he believes he’s a much different person than the media portrays him to be, and has loved working with him so far.
“I think that’s why you should never really listen to what somebody else says about somebody,” he said of Pickens during minicamp. “I think you should find out for yourself who they are and allow them to reveal their character to you. The guy’s been great. He’s been phenomenal.
“It’s a guy that loves football, loves his teammates, and he’s been excited every day that he’s been there. He’s been early, too, so no concerns on the personal matters of G.P. or anything about it. I’m just super excited that he’s on our team. He’s one of us, and he’s our brother, and he’s all about continuing to grow and making sure he’s putting the best out there; and that’s his approach.”
