Cowboys Lose Both Top Edge Rushers for Steelers in Week 5

The Dallas Cowboys will likely be without both starting edge rushers for their Week 5 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Star Dallas Cowboys outside linebacker Micah Parsons will miss his team’s Week 5 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Cowboys got other bad injury news for their defense on Friday, as well.

Tests on Friday revealed that Parsons suffered a high ankle sprain in Dallas’ 20-15 win over the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football. According to a report by Ed Werder of WFAA-TV in Dallas, Parsons is expected to miss multiple games, which would include the Cowboys’ Week 5 visit to Pittsburgh next Sunday.

Werder also reported that defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence has a foot injury that will require the attention of a specialist. He is also expected to miss the game against the Steelers.

Parsons was engaged with one Giants offensive lineman when another New York player fell on the back of his left leg, pinning his lower leg, ankle and foot underneath as Parsons fell to the turf at MetLife Stadium on Thursday night. He was carted off the field and was seen icing his ankle in the locker room after the game.

Lawrence played 30 snaps against the Giants, recording two tackles, one for a loss and one quarterback hit. Lawrence is a four-time Pro Bowler and a stalwart on the Dallas defensive line since 2014.

Chauncey Golston and rookie Marshawn Kneeland should be expected to replace Lawrence and Parsons on the Dallas defensive line if neither starting defensive end is available to play in Pittsburgh. Backup Sam Williams is on the injured reserve list.

The Steelers host the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, with an 8:20 p.m. kickoff at Acrisure Stadium on Oct. 6.
