FRISCO - If it's offensive help you think the Dallas Cowboys - and who doesn't? - then you'll love ESPN's new 7-round NFL mock draft. According to draft expert Matt Miller, the Cowboys will select a tight end, running back and receiver with their first three picks.
Dak Prescott will also likely be a fan of this mock draft
With the 12th overall pick, ESPN predicts the Cowboys will select Penn State tight end Tyler Warren.
"The Cowboys need playmakers everywhere," Miller writes, "and that should be their early focus. Warren would give the an upper-caliber receiving tight end who would immediately be the second option behind CeeDee Lamb. Brock Bowers should last season how impactful a rookie tight end can be and Warren has many of the same qualities, including being able to get open underneath and a knack for creating yards after the catch."
The drafting of Warren would be the highest for a tight end in franchise history, ahead of Billy Joe Dupree (20th in 1973) and David LaFleur (22nd in 1997). Jason Witten, the Cowboys' all-time leader in receptions and yards, was a third-round choice in 2003.
It would also, however, be an indictment of 2023 second-round pick Luke Schoonmaker, who in two seasons has managed only 35 catches for 306 yards and three touchdowns.
With their next two picks, the Cowboys drafted Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson (44th) and TCU receiver Jack Bech (76th). ESPN compares Johnson's running style to that of former Cowboys' NFL rushing champion DeMarco Murray.
"The Cowboys wait to add their running back and would get a powerful runner with great outside zone ability," ESPN writes. "He is a slasher who loves to run downhill and will make defenders pay if they're in his path when he clears the line of scrimmage."
With their remaining picks, ESPN projects Dallas to draft
Edge David Walker, Central Arkansas (149)
OT Carson Vinson, Alabama A&M (171)
DT Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, Georgia (174)
CB Robert Longerbeam, Rutgers (204)
G Jackson Slater, Sacramento State (211)
DT Yahya Black, Iowa (239)
WR Tai Felton, Maryland (247)
In all, ESPN projects the Cowboys will use their top three and six of their 10 picks on offense.
