Cowboys Make Massive Announcement About the Future Of the Franchise

It was never going to be easy after a long season in which the Dallas Cowboys finished 7-10, albeit much of it without start QB, Dak Prescott.

Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy could prefer Bears if team moves on - Blogging The Boys

After days of going back and forth, with much uncertainty in the air, it seems as if owner, Jerry Jones, has finally made a decision on their future.

Much was made of the fact that the Cowboys denied the Bears the opportunity to interview head coach, Mike McCarthy, for their vacant HC position – implying that he could be back and re-signed over the course of the week + long exclusive rights negotiating period at the end of his contract in Dallas, which was set to expire on January 14.

However, Dallas have made their choice a day early, with NFL insider, Tom Pelissero confirming that McCarthy is out as head coach on Monday.

This slightly differs from Tom Pelissero, who as reported above that there were some implied preliminary discussions, but that these ultimately fell down due to discrepancies in desired length on the new deal.

Who Could The Cowboys Turn To As Their Vacant Coaching Role

The Cowboys are not exactly in the best shape of the history of the franchise, but as the biggest brand in domestic pro sports, and with a still well-above-average roster, the team figures to have the ability to lure some of the bigger names of this hiring cycle.

The Lions’ offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson – who is now the clear #1 head coaching target for the majority of the league’s open jobs – has already interviewed with the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars, with a Raiders interview scheduled in the coming days.

However, both of these teams have significant problems in terms of management and ownership – with both being some of the most dysfunctional teams in the league over the past two decades.

Dallas has all the brand appeal of Chicago, and all of the QB talent – Dak Prescott (at least in the regular season) – as Jacksonville.

Other candidates could include Bills OC, Joe Brady, who has revitalized Josh Allen into an improved version, even beyond the peak of his days with Giants coach, Brian Daboll, as his coordinator, and Ravens OC, Todd Monken – who could help lead QB Lamar Jackson to successive MVPs in his first two years on the job.
