Cowboys' Micah Parsons Ranking As 'Trade Bait' Made Perfectly Clear

The rumors of the Dallas Cowboys potentially trading Micah Parsons won't go away, but they should.

Dallas Cowboys push rushing linebacker Micah Parsons is the talk of the offseason with his new contract still not believed to be close to getting completed.

With Parsons and owner Jerry Jones already discussing the details, nothing substantial has come of it yet, which leads to talk about the franchise possibly trading Parsons before paying him.

We can say with a fair amount of confidence that the Cowboys won't be trading Micah, although the NFL is a never-say-never league, but it wouldn't make sense.

And again, as our Mike Fisher has reported and made perfectly clear: The Cowboys have explored the idea in-house - nothing wrong with that - and rejected it.

Still, Fox Sports' Ralph Vacchiano has put up Parsons' name as trade bait for Dallas.

"He is arguably the best defensive player in football and the Cowboys say they intend to give him the massive contract he deserves … eventually," Vacchiano writes. "But every day they delay that seemingly inevitable outcome adds to the persistent murmurs that Dallas might deal him instead. The haul would be enormous. It would have to include multiple first-round picks, including at least one that's pretty high, and possibly players, too. Dealing him might be raising a white flag on the 2025 season, but the king's ransom in return could set them up for years to come."

One could imagine the backlash from Dallas natives if Parsons were traded away. We saw what the Luka Doncic trade did for the Dallas Mavericks and their fan base; Jerry Jones wouldn't be able to spin it in a way that fans would be on board with the Lion moving on.

There haven't been any indications that Parsons could be dealt, and while the contract isn't signed, there is confidence that it will eventually be done.

But the longer the deal goes unsigned, the more "trade Micah" stories will pop up, despite Dallas's having zero reason to do so. He's a generational talent who wants to be a Cowboy and a leader of the team—you don't trade those types away.

And Dallas shouldn't - even for a king's ransom.
