The Dallas Cowboys signed a few veteran running backs in free agency, but they were in need of some young legs in the backfield heading into the 2025 NFL Draft.

It took until Round 5, but that is exactly what the Cowboys got when they drafted Texas running back Jaydon Blue with the 149th pick. He might not be the biggest running back, but he could be a serious threat on Dallas' offense.

Blue finished his final season at Texas with 730 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. But it was in the passing game where he really showed his versatility with 368 yards and six touchdowns through the air.

The Cowboys have shown in the past that they enjoy using their running backs in the passing game, such as Rico Dowdle and Tony Pollard. If the team could use Blue like those guys while giving other guys snaps on the ground, they could develop him into quite the weapon.

This much is certain: He can fly ... and his highlight reels are now videos going viral ...

Blue might be just 5-9 and weigh 196 pounds (some reports list him as a bit bigger), but he more than makes up for it with his athleticism. He ran a fine 4.38 in the 40-yard dash and a 1.52 in the 10-yard split, and he used that speed to make quite the highlight reel with the Longhorns.

Oh, and they say that at Texas' Pro Day he ran a 4.28-second 40.

His personal comp?

"I think me and Jahmyr Gibbs are very similar," Blue said. "Similar body types, we're both fast, we have great burst and the ability to make guys miss, we both thrive in the passing game, and I think we do a lot of things similarly."

If Blue can use that speed and athleticism to help the Cowboys' backfield, he could become one of the team's most versatile weapons with his efforts in the passing game.
