Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Is 'Up to Something'; What?

FRISCO - What is Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones "up to''?

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Is 'Up to Something'; What?

Maybe something as simple as "doing his job.''

National and DFW media spend the weekend running in circles trying to diagnose th secret meaning of Jones' decision to skip meeting reporters while in Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine.

The gossip included the ridiculous and the obvious.

For "ridiculous''? We to to ProFootballTalk.com. ...

"I did hear yesterday ... you hear all sorts of stuff. And I don't like to traffic in stuff I've heard because I don't know how accurate it is. But I did have somebody tell me that the Cowboys have talked to the Titans about moving up to number one," Mike Florio said.

Factually? Our Mike Fisher is reporting that no conversation involving "higher-ups'' from the Cowboys and the Titans regarding a trade-up to the No. 1 overall spot in the NFL Draft has occurred.

More insightful is the responsible take from The Athletic's Jon Machota, who truly didn't "traffic in'' gossip.

"Cowboys owner Jerry Jones didn’t hold his usual combine bus interview with reporters in Indianapolis. He just declined to talk while leaving the team’s Indianapolis hotel. He said he would talk when he gets back to Dallas. Strange times," Machota wrote.

A step beyond that? Our colleague Bobby Belt from 105.3 The Fan noted that often, when Jerry goes quiet, something big is brewing.

Wrote Belt: "There's been some odd vibes around the Cowboys this trip. Definitely seems like they're up to something."

And there is one more take worth considering, from our own Mike Fisher.

It was Combine Week in preparation for the draft. NFL free agency is days away. Jerry and Cowboys brass is busy talking contract with Micah Parsons and Osa Odighizuwa and others.

So what could Jerry "be up to''?

Writes Fish: "Maybe, as the GM of the Cowboys, he's simply doing the non-marketing part of the job - just as Cowboys Nation has demanded of him for years.''
