Deebo Samuel has been a consistent problem for the Micah Parsons-led Cowboys as Dallas (3-3 this year) has lost three straight to their NFC rivals.
FRISCO - The San Francisco 49ers received some good news at midweek as they prepare for the Dallas Cowboys' visit the Bay this week for "Sunday Night Football'' as Deebo Samuel on Tuesday was released from the hospital.
The Niners have other injury-related reasons to be reeling as fellow receiving star Brandon Aiyuk is out for the season after sustaining an injury in last week's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, and as MVP-level running back Christian McCaffrey has yet to play this year.
But Samuel having been hospitalized following Sunday's game was a frightening thing ... and his possible return figures to be an uplifting thing.
Already limited by a wrist injury that kept him from participating fully in practice, Samuel was able to play just four snaps in a 28-18 loss to the undefeated Chiefs. In a rather scary sight, Samuel required the use of an oxygen mask on the sideline while attempting to play in that key game, a rematch of last year's Super Bowl won by KC.
On Monday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed the unfortunate news that Samuel was in the hospital with pneumonia and was dealing with fluid in his lungs. The 49ers had declined to detail any timetable for his return to the field. ...but now comes word that he might try to practice on Wednesday.
"I think it started acting up in the middle of the night Saturday night or early Sunday morning and then it just kind of evolved as the day went," Shanahan said of Samuel and his illnesss. "Once we found out he had the fluid in his lungs and stuff after the game, then I believe they sent him over there (to the hospital).''
Samuel has been a consistent problem for the Micah Parsons-led Cowboys as Dallas (3-3 this year) has lost three straight to their NFC rivals. The 3-4 Niners came into the week as seven-point favorites, a status that makes a lot more sense if Deebo is able to go.
