Cowboys Pursuit of Kellen Could Mean Major Eagles Move

Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles offense have seen their fair share of different systems and play-callers come through the ranks since 2020.

From Hurts' rookie season in 2020, the Eagles have had four different play-callers including two head coaching changes.

Not exactly the kind of stability you want surrounding an impressionable quarterback.

And here come the Dallas Cowboys trying to again threaten that stability.

Hurts and the Eagles have managed to be just fine in the win column despite all the changes.

The next one could happen as early as this offseason, too.

With Kellen Moore seen as something of a favorite for the head coaching role of the Dallas Cowboys - he conducted his virtual interview with his former club on Friday - the Eagles could have their fourth different play-caller in as many seasons.

As the team looks to try and find a replacement, though, the answer to that question could be in a former player on the Birds.

USA Today's Glenn Erby teased the idea of former backup quarterback Josh McCown coming in and going from a quarterback coach with the Minnesota Vikings to be the offensive coordinator and play-caller for the Eagles.

"A former Eagles quarterback, McCown has already had head coaching interviews, and his work under Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell can't go unnoticed," Erby said. "McCown has the knowledge to continue Hurts' development and could blend portions of the scheme with more West Coast concepts as the Eagles' star quarterback becomes even more efficient."

McCown's only year in Philadelphia came in 2019 when he appeared for an injured Carson Wentz in the team's 17-9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

Adam Schefter did tease the idea that McCown wouldn't be interested in any promotion to mere play-caller without the guarantee of being a head coach in the future.

Would that mean Philadelphia is off the table? If there's a team that has shown a history of being able to get their offensive play-callers head coaching jobs, it's the Eagles. …

As might be the case with Dallas' pursuit of Kellen Moore.
