Cooper Rush isn't 100 percent healthy to start a shortened week for the Dallas Cowboys.
On Sunday, Rush played his best game of the season since replacing an injured Dak Prescott. The 30-year-old led Dallas to a 34-26 win over the Washington Commanders with 247 passing yards and two touchdowns.
That performance could quiet the calls for Dallas to play Trey Lance instead. However, that's assuming Rush is available on Thanksgiving.
Dallas listed Rush as a limited participant on Monday's estimated walkthrough with a knee injury. Head coach Mike McCarthy didn't sound overly concerned about his quarterback's status for Thursday's game against the New York Giants.
“He's got some work to do, but I think we’re going to be fine," McCarthy said of Rush, per ESPN's Todd Archer.
Before Sunday, Rush completed 58 of 103 passes for 514 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in three straight losses. The Cowboys nevertheless stuck with their longtime understudy, who rewarded their loyalty by completing 24 of 32 throws at Washington.
"I thought Cooper did a great job managing the game," McCarthy said after Sunday's win, per team reporter Tommy Yarrish. "I thought the run game teed up some completions for him. I thought he was very decisive. Clearly, it was his best game so far this year."
Dallas pulled off the road upset with help from two kickoff return touchdowns and a costly missed extra point from Austin Seibert that would have tied the game with 12 seconds remaining.
"It's the NFL. You're out here competing, man," Rush told FOX sideline reporter Pam Oliver in a post-game interview. "Season's on the line a little bit. We talked all week about fighting, and guys fought. Crazy game up and down, but guys hung in there and we made enough plays."
Thursday could be the last time Dallas enters a game as favorites this season. The Giant fell to 2-9 following Sunday's 30-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers behind Tommy DeVito.
If he's active, Rush will look to ignite another NFC East victory when the Cowboys play their annual Thanksgiving game at 4:30 p.m. ET.
