Dallas Cowboys quarterback Cooper Rush is 3-3 as the starter stepping in for the injured Dak Prescott, and with each passing week, he looks to be getting more comfortable running Mike McCarthy's offense.
With Dallas now 3-1 in its last four games, Rush has been able to be the "bus driver" that helps steer the ship in the right direction.
Now that Cooper is beginning to feel settled as a starter with live NFL bullets flying, McCarthy has noticed one aspect of Rush's game that seems to have improved over the last month: his ability to make adjustments at the line of scrimmage.
“You have to have it in today's game,” McCarthy said on 105.3 The Fan. “There's so much that goes on at the line of scrimmage, there's so much that goes on with your cadence, defenses are holding the disguise longer than ever, it's very common to see things held to the snap of the ball, particularly with the safety. So it's a very big part not only the run game but also the protection, adjustments, he's exceptional. He does an excellent job of that and keeps us in favorable plays.”
Rush now has the confidence to call what he sees, and if it doesn't look right, he makes the right check to get the offense into a favorable play, not to mention the now famous "here we go" cadence that Prescott has used over the past two seasons.
With three games left in the season, Rush and the Cowboys know that one loss will end their already slim playoff chances. They also know they are 4-point underdogs at home against this quality opponent. But there is an air of confidence flowing through The Star right now.
And with Rush being "exceptional" at the line of scrimmage and getting the offense into the right play, they'll fancy their chances of putting up points in the final stages of the year.
