Cowboys Rico Dowdle Reveals Bittersweet Emotions On Milestone Achievement

Dallas Cowboys running back Rico Dowdle hit the famous 1,000-yard mark against the Philadelphia Eagles, but the milestone might be quickly forgotten.

There weren't many positives for the Dallas Cowboys in the 41-7 beatdown at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field, but Rico Dowdle was one of them.

Needing 97 rushing yards to hit the famous 1,000-yard total for running backs, Dowdle, managed 104 from 23 carries to be the first undrafted player to achieve that  feat for the Cowboys.

But given what else transpired on the day with the Cowboys allowing Saquon Barkley to hit the 2,000-yard mark and have Eric Dickerson's record for most rush yards in a season well within reach, Rico's achievement has gotten lost.

Nevertheless, he's still proud of what he's accomplished in 2024.

“It definitely feels good,” Dowdle said with what obviously was bittersweet emotion. “Definitely a landmark I wanted to hit, not the outcome, wish it was a different outcome with it. Had a fumble, definitely satisfied getting it, reaching that landmark.”

It was just the fourth time Dowdle had rushed for 100 yards in a game and the second time the Cowboys had lost when Rico hit that mark.

In true Cowboys fashion, with Dowdle hitting 1,000 rushing yards and fans ready to give him his flowers, for Barkley to double that on the year just rubs salt into the wounds and shows the different level the Eagles are on compared to Dallas.

But Rico's form since being the starter has been one, and hitting 1,000 yards is no mean feat, considering five times he had 10 or fewer carries in a game.

While his future, like many others beyond 2024, is murky at best, Dowdle at least proved he deserves to be in the conversation to be brought back after notching 1,000 rushing yards in his first season as a starter.
