Cowboys Star Posts Emotional Message After Season-Ending Injury

The Dallas Cowboys lost more than just a regular season game on Monday night.

Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who was blossoming into one of the team's top defenders, suffered a devastating knee injury in the fourth quarter when his right leg was bent awkwardly underneath him. Overshown, who already missed his rookie season in 2023 with a torn ACL, reportedly tore his ACL, MCL and PCL, putting not just his 2025 season but also potentially his career at risk.

On Tuesday morning, as his teammates and Cowboys fans were mourning Overshown's injury, the second-year pro posted an inspirational message on Instagram.

"With New Goals comes New Obstacles. I believe in pushing myself to the limits and never stop chasing what’s meant for me. I woke up this morning. That’s the only motivation I needed I’ll be back," Overshown wrote.

In 13 games this season, Overshown bagged 90 tackles and five sacks. He also scored a touchdown on a pick-6 against the New York Giants on Thanksgiving.

It was immediately evident that the Tyler, Texas native and University of Texas alum had suffered a serious injury when he went down with 12:49 remaining in the final period of Monday's 27-20 loss.

“He don’t deserve that either. He really don’t,” Cowboys star Micah Parsons said of Overshown's injury postgame. “I understand what he’s going to go through and to be there for me physically, mentally. It’s just so challenging. He’s so talented. The year he was having. I really just don’t think that’s fair.”

The best-case scenario for Overshown is a return sometime during the 2025 season, but 2026 may be a more realistic option.

Owner Jerry Jones refused to put a timeline on Overshown's rehab when speaking on Tuesday.

"It's the toughest time for a player. And we all see the loss and know what it's going to mean for us in our remaining four games," Jones said. "Bottom line is it's really sad that he's having to have this surgery for him as an individual and obviously us as a team."
