The Dallas Cowboys still haven't extended edge-rusher Micah Parsons, but it doesn't appear both sides are headed toward an impasse.
In a story published Sunday, ESPN's Todd Archer reported the Cowboys met with Parsons' agent, David Mulugheta, at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis in February. Archer noted Parsons also met with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and co-owner Stephen Jones in the past couple of weeks.
Stephen Jones indicated they're in a good place with Parsons on Sunday in Palm Beach, Florida, where the league will hold its annual meeting on Monday.
"I don't want to get into any details," Stephen Jones said, per Archer. "It's not fair for anybody, other than we've got a great working relationship with Micah and think the world of him. Like I've said, we've had good visits with him and feel good about where we're headed."
In March, Cleveland Browns edge-rusher Myles Garrett (four years, $160M) and Las Vegas Raiders edge-rusher Maxx Crosby (three years, $106.5M) signed extensions.
Parsons — who is set to play on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract in 2025 — could command a similar deal to those of the star pass-rushers. Since being drafted No. 12 overall by the Cowboys in 2021, he has 52.5 sacks and has made four Pro Bowls.
Stephen Jones didn't reveal whether the Cowboys are offering Parsons a deal that pays him more than Crosby or Garrett.
"Like I said, I'm not getting into any detail on where things are, and how far along we are or anything like that," he said. "It's not productive."
Perhaps Stephen Jones' comments suggest he feels both parties have made progress, but not enough.
Regardless, the Cowboys should try to accelerate negotiations with Parsons.
Last offseason, they waited to extend quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. In turn, they likely paid more for the QB-WR tandem than they would've if they had given them deals earlier. That could happen again if Dallas doesn't extend Parsons soon.
