Cowboys' Tetairoa McMillan draft dreams in potential peril after confirmed visit

Tetairoa McMillan is drawing plenty of interest around the league.

The Dallas Cowboys need another prolific wide receiver to improve their chances of bouncing back in 2025. And there is one name fans are clamoring for above all else.

Tetairoa McMillan is a hot name during the pre-draft assessment process. The Arizona prospect is arguably the best wideout emerging from the college ranks this year. Whether he'll be around for the Cowboys at No. 12 overall is the big question.

Projections are sketchy regarding McMillan. Some analysts have him going in the top 10. Others see him falling into the late 20s after concerns about his top-end speed and commitment to preparation emerged recently. The reality lies somewhere in between, but it's a waiting game for Dallas if those in power identify him as a prospect of interest.

One notable development could take McMillan off the board long before Dallas goes on the clock. Joe Person from The Athletic revealed that the Carolina Panthers have arranged a '30' visit with the gifted pass-catcher before the draft. Considering they have the No. 8 overall pick and how many private visits turned into draft picks for the franchise last year, this meeting indicates they have serious interest.

That would be a blow for the Cowboys if they believe McMillan has what it takes to become another dynamic piece opposite CeeDee Lamb. Other prospects are being considered, so having contingency plans in place for every eventuality is crucial.

The Cowboys cannot be left short-changed. It was another relatively uninspiring free agency for the organization. Jerry Jones preached the importance of building through the draft and eventually reward those who prove their worth. That takes longer than expected in some cases, with All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons still awaiting his extension that will likely reset the market.

Looking at the Washington Commanders' resurgence and the Philadelphia Eagles' dominant run to Super Bowl sense, urgency couldn't be higher from Dallas' perspective to make the moves needed in pursuit of staying competitive. McMillan would get them closer. He should also have plenty of space to do damage with an outstanding performer such as Lamb taking the primary attention of opposing coverage schemes.

It's smoke and mirrors season, but anything can happen when the draft rolls around. What's important for the Cowboys is trusting their evaluations, playing the board effectively, and seizing on opportunities when they arise. Nothing else will do.

McMillan has the game-changing traits that typically transition successfully to the pros. What he lacks in elite speed, he more than makes up for with exceptional contested catch prowess and the ability to make tough grabs look easy. Adding some play strength would be wise, but there is a lot to like about his credentials.

Whether he'll end up in Dallas remains to be seen.
