Cowboys Trade Rumor on Browns’ David Njoku Lacks One Major Component

There is speculation that given the Cleveland Browns drafting of talented prospect Harold Fannin, Pro Bowl tight end David Njoku might be made available in a trade. Would the Dallas Cowboys bite?

FRISCO - The temptation is clear, at least as it relates to national media people attaching "name'' players to the Dallas Cowboys.

And no, we're not just talking about the "clicky'' attraction to doing so.

The Cowboys have already made four notable trades this offseason, headlined by the moves with the Pittsburgh Steelers to acquire the talented wide receiver George Pickens.

This trade creates a potentially dangerous passing attack with quarterback Dak Prescott and All-Pro receiver CeeDee Lamb that could rival the best offensive trios in the NFL.

So, how about another add?

Last Word On Sports speculates that given the Cleveland Browns drafting of talented prospect Harold Fannin, Pro Bowl tight end David Njoku might be made available in a trade.

Njoku is entering the final year of his current contract and despite being one of Cleveland's best players in recent years, the Browns could turn things over to the rookie if it helps their causes in ushering in a new era with their new-look quarterback room.

So there might be some sense to this from a Cleveland perspective, should Dallas (or any other team) want to pick apart the Browns roster carcass.

But why would the Cowboys be a potential trade partner?

The website points out that Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson experienced a down year in 2024. ... but sort of skips over the fact that he was hurt much of the year and that Dak was largely unavailable as well.

Let's look at some hard numbers here ...

Compare their 2023 seasons (the year both players made their lone Pro Bowls). The Browns tight end finished with 81 catches, 881 yards and six touchdowns. Dallas' Ferguson ended with 71 receptions, 761 yards and five scores.

The gap isn't wide.

And the money? There is the logical major component being left out of the speculation.

The Cowboys are paying Ferguson $3 million.

The Browns are paying Njoku $14 million.

So while we get the temptation to drink up ideas like this it from a fan and media perspective ... we're obliged to put a cork in the bottle with realities.
