The Dallas Cowboys need to find a running mate for CeeDee Lamb, which is well-known, and for most, adding a player early in the draft is how the franchise will "fix" the position.
Prospects Tetairoa McMillan, Matthew Golden, Luther Burden III, and Emeka Egbuka have all been linked to the Cowboys in several mock drafts. But now comes a little nugget of information that might have the Cowboys rethinking their plans.
According to one national report, the Detroit Lions might be trading receiver Jameson Williams. Hmm, color us intrigued.
Now, the timing of this isn't great, and if a move would likely happen post-draft, given the Cowboys' need for a receiver early. But it does give food for thought.
Williams is coming off his best-ever season in the NFL as the third-year receiver posted 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns from his 58 receptions. That's some solid production.
Plus, Williams is a known speed merchant, averaging 17.1 yards per reception for the Lions last season. While the stats are great, when we delve deeper, a move might be tricky.
Williams is entering the fourth year of his rookie deal, with the Lions able to pick up his fifth-year option. Plus, the Cowboys, who have 10 draft picks, would have to give up some of that capital as well.
Would the franchise do that and then pay Williams? Dallas COO Stephen Jones calls it "double dipping," and that puts some doubt in our minds that the Cowboys would be interested in this.
Oh, and there's this: We say Dallas should look at this post-Draft, depending on who the Cowboys add this weekend.
Does Detroit want to wait? Or do the Lions want their picks now?
However, Williams is a bonafide No. 2 receiver and would come cheap in 2025, but his proposed new contract and the draft capital needed makes this move unlikely, at least pre draft.
But depending on how the draft plays out for Dallas, after that, maybe a phone call could be made because Williams, as a Dallas Cowboy, is an interesting thought.
