Cubs Star Makes Up His Mind on 2025 Home Run Derby

Cubs star Pete Crow-Armstrong leads the team with 19 home runs and after his 452-foot blast against the Brewers Tuesday night you wonder if he’d be interested in participating in the 2025 Home Run Derby. Well, it turns that he was asked about it prior to his jaw-dropping performance at Wrigley Field.

I bet you didn’t have that on your bingo card entering the 2025 season after he finished his rookie year with 10 home runs in 123 games. PCA currently ranks seventh overall in MLB with his 19 home runs so far this season and as one of the rising superstars in the league there’s no doubt that he’d be a main attraction for fans at the derby in Atlanta next month.

However, it doesn’t sound like the Cubs center fielder is thinking about participating in this year’s home run derby or in any of them in the future for that matter.

Pete Crow-Armstrong says he’s not interested in participating in this year’s Home Run Derby. Someday, perhaps. But for now, the Chicago Cubs star would rather just concentrate on his 2025 season.

“No, that’s not for me,” Crow-Armstrong said before hitting a mammoth 452-foot home run against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night. “That’s a different kind of power. I don’t know if I can withstand however long the timer is there. That would be a struggle.”

Well, at least Cubs fans are getting to see PCA’s power in person. His 452-foot homer that bounced off the video board in right field was Crow-Armstrong’s hardest-hit home run of his entire career.

That includes his time with the Iowa Cubs at Triple-A as well.

Back in May, Marquee Sports Network had a fantastic segment breaking down PCA’s adjustments at the plate that has led to more power this year.

In 2024, Crow-Armstrong had a .384 slugging % and a .148 ISO. Through 72 games in 2025, he’s up to a .550 slugging % and .280 ISO, ranking No. 6 and No. 7, respectively among all qualified players in MLB.

Imagine if PCA didn’t get off to a slow start this season because all 19 of his home runs have come in his last 55 games after hitting none in his first 17 games.

But hey, Cubs fans will get over not seeing PCA at the derby if he keeps this up. Truly incredible stuff we’re witnessing this year.
