The Dallas Cowboys are showing optimism regarding Jake Ferguson's game status ahead of Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens, as Jerry Jones told 105.3 The Fan "everything looks on go" for the star tight end.

Dak Prescott's words perfectly explain how bad the Cowboys offense needs Jake Ferguson back

Fans would be smart to take it with a grain of salt as the team still needs to see him practice. Now granted, the Cowboys know how much they'd miss Ferguson against a physical team like the Baltimore Ravens. Heck, they just lived it against the New Orleans Saints.

"Everywhere, I guess you can say that, those young tight ends did a good job, simply, they did a good job," Prescott told reporters when asked where the Cowboys missed Ferguson the most in Week 2.

To Prescott's point, no tight end really excelled but Luke Schoonmaker had some moments, including a one-handed grab and five more catches for 43 yards. Brevyn Spann-Ford did not record a catch but had some moments as a blocker, one of which didn't matter as much as he buried a Saints safety in a play where Jalen Brooks missed his corresponding block, resulting in a three-yard loss.

But that unique Ferguson energy? That's something only he himself can provide.

"As I’ve said throughout the week, Jake’s more than just a tight end on Sunday," Prescott added with a telling quote. "He’s an aggressor. He brings a physical nature to this group. He’s got a mentality that other guys feed off of, that’s very contagious. But those other guys did play well. They did their job and stepped up. They made some plays, (the game) just got away from us."Dak's explanation of Ferguson's energy shouldn't be a surprise to anyone but it's a perfect representation of what was missing on Sunday and how badly they need him back.

The Saints took it to the Cowboys in every phase of the game. Whether it was spamming the same run concepts knowing they'd beat the defense at the point of attack every time or Tyrann Matthieu blowing up Jalen Tolbert for a pass breakup or CeeDee Lamb being leveled in the end zone, the Saints showed up as the fighter that only knows how to step forward all throughout a boxing match.

Had Ferguson been on that field, you know he would've had at least one exchange like the ones he had against Jamal Adams last year. He's the kind of player you want on that field in a game like this as he won't stand there and be punched in the mouth without throwing an overhand of his own.
