The Dallas Cowboys were dominating the Cleveland Browns on Sunday afternoon when a star pass catcher had to leave the game. The injury appeared to be painful.
A big day for the Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys came into Sunday’s game looking to prove they could be a playoff contender after owner Jerry Jones agreed to a new contract extension with quarterback Dak Prescott. The Cowboys delayed extending wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and Prescott until after training camp.
Jones’ willingness to delay the extensions until after the Cowboys could use freed-up cap space from the new deals to sign free agents in the offseason shows the faith he has in the team to be a contender this season.
The Cowboys were up 30-10 in Cleveland during the fourth quarter, overachieving against a Browns defense that is supposed to be one of the better units in the league.
Jake Ferguson suffered an injury
Unfortunately for the Cowboys, star tight end Jake Ferguson landed awkwardly on the ground and left the field in pain.
Per Ari Meirov with the 33rd Team, the injury was to Ferguson’s knee. He went into the locker room to receive medical attention.
Ferguson had a huge season in 2023
Ferguson, a fourth-round pick by the Cowboys in 2022, had a huge season in 2023. He earned a Pro Bowl appearance last season after he caught 71 passes for 761 yards and five touchdowns.
Ferguson caught three passes for 15 yards against the Browns.
The Cowboys still have talent at pass catcher if Ferguson has to miss time to recover from the injury. They’ll lean on Brandin Cooks and CeeDee Lamb.
The Cowboys have healthy tight ends Luke Schoonmaker and rookie Brevyn Spann-Ford on the 53-man roster.
