Dallas Cowboys Secret Breakout Star Revealed for 2024 NFL Season

The Dallas Cowboys will likely lean heavily on veteran playmakers on defense this season.

All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons has plenty of motivation to build on his career-high 14-sack 2023 campaign as he enters a contract-year. Likewise, Trevon Diggs’ return and DaRon Bland’s emergence last season could set the stage for the Cowboys’ secondary to be among the league’s most dominant.

Linebacker, though, could be a position where an unheralded player could emerge as a breakout star during the 2024 season.

DeMarvion Overshown Could Be Dallas Cowboys’ Defensive Breakout Star

Pro Football Focus’ Gordon McGuinness put together an “All-Breakout” team for the upcoming season, including DeMarvion Overshown as one of the linebackers.

“If Trenton Simpson’s spot on this team involved a lot of projection,” McGuinness writes for PFF. “Overshown requires even more. He played just 46 preseason snaps in his rookie season before a torn ACL ended his year. He was expected to compete for starting snaps in 2023, though, and earned a 74.7 PFF grade in the preseason before the injury.”

Overshown making a strong comeback could prove a significant development for the Cowboys’ defense.

If Overshown is going to live up to McGuinness’ lofty expectations, he’ll likely need to prove he has more upside than Marist Liufau in what could prove to be a compelling position battle to watch this summer during Cowboys training camp.
