The Dallas Cowboys are heading into a new season with a very new staff, and the fanbase certainly hope that the changes result in the kind of comeback America’s Team needs. With the season is just a few months away, the Cowboys are gearing up for it to start, so there’s a lots of excitement in the camp about what’s ahead.
But, there’s still this looming situation with one of the team’s star players his contract that would make everyone sleep easier if it finally got worked out. The Cowboys simply can’t afford to loose this guy.
Dallas Cowboys Cautioned Over Contract Talks
In a June 17 feature for Bleacher Report, Kristopher Knox names every NFL Team’s to-do tally for the rest of the 2025 offseason. In the piece, he notes that the NFL has “finally reached the quiet portion of the 2025 NFL offseason. Organized team activities (OTAs) and most mandatory minicamps are over, which means many players are essentially off until the start of training camps.”
But, even as the offseason gets “quiet,” the decision-makers are still be working to ensure that their teams have everything they need going into the new season. As Knox states, “coaches, general managers and other team decision-makers will simply be idle over the next month. Whether it’s addressing roster holes, executing trades, signing players to new contracts or laying camp plans, every NFL team has something to accomplish before the end of the summer.”
For the Cowboys, the biggest thing the team needs to do, according to Knox, is install their new defense, but coming in at No. 2 is to extend Micah Parsons‘ contract.
In the piece, Knox says Dallas needs to “work out a new long-term deal with pass-rusher Micah Parsons,” which is a total given.
“The four-time Pro Bowler is entering a contract year, deserves a new deal and could potentially hold out during camp without one,” Knox stated. “He attended mandatory minicamp but did not practice.”
Knox added that with the Cowboys’ $32.5 million in cap space, the team “should get the ball rolling on a deal to make Parsons the league’s highest-paid defender. Otherwise, they could try to fetch a massive return by placing him on the trade market.”
Beyond the Dallas Cowboys’ Parsons Situation
So, once the Cowboys get the Parsons situation worked out, Knox also says the team needs to find “additional help for a run defense that ranked 30th in yards per carry allowed last season. Players like C.J. Mosley and Raekwon Davis could help strengthen the depth of Dallas’ front seven.”
In general, the Cowboys didn’t totally do a makeover on their team, but the biggest change, of course, is bringing on new head coach Brian Schottenheimer to replace Mike McCarthy. Even in that case, though, Schottenheimer was promoted from within, so it’s really not a certainly just how different this Dallas team will look come September.
As Knox points out, the coaching change “will result in some changes on both sides of the ball, but the offensive changes may be minimal. Schottenheimer has been with Dallas since 2022 and spent the last two years as the offensive coordinator.”
