Free agency in the NBA has slowed down tremendously over the last couple of days, and most of the big free agents have already signed with their new teams.
The Dallas Mavericks quickly acquired Klay Thompson in a sign-and-trade and signed him to a three-year deal, but outside of that move, things have been relatively quiet on the Mavs' end.
They still have an open roster spot, as they currently have 14 players under contract, and one of their three two-way spots is officially gone now as the Mavs made a move on Wednesday afternoon.
Dallas Mavericks re-sign Brandon Williams to two-way contract
According to Mavs PR, Dallas signed Brandon Williams to a two-way contract for next season. Williams was signed to a two-way contract by the Mavs during the middle of last season, and he ended up being a good pickup for them as he dominated the G League.
Williams averaged 24.1 points per game for the Texas Legends last season, and although he didn't play much, he also got some run for the Mavs.
Williams appeared in 17 games for Dallas and averaged 3.2 points and 1.0 assists per game. He won't be a part of the Mavs rotation any time soon, but he is a good young prospect to hold onto.
Williams is only 24 years old, and he has shown plenty of flashes in the G League that he can be a tough bucket-getter. He has a tight handle and excellent quickness, and he gets to the rim with ease. His finishing around the rim is underrated for an undersized guard, and he has a solid pull-up mid-range jumper.
While his 3-point shooting numbers don't look great, Williams always has the confidence to let it fly when needed and takes and makes tough shots. He isn't one to light it up from downtown, but he will become even more dynamic if his 3-point jumper becomes consistent as it'll allow his drives to the rim to open up even more.
Dallas signing Williams to a two-way contract again was a smart choice, especially considering their need for backcourt depth, and maybe he'll continue to develop and join the Mavs rotation one day.
For all the latest on Brandon Williams and the Dallas Mavericks all offseason long, stay tuned.
