One of the best things about Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is his generally unfiltered nature. He does not engage in coach-speak very often, and when he does it's usually in regard to injuries, which are often naturally uncertain by nature.
We see it postgame locker room celebrations, as would be expected in that environment, and we heard it once this season during a live radio interview on 97.1 The Ticket when it wasn't expected and warranted use of the dump button. Sometimes Campbell's filter comes all the way off.
Campbell was asked about having met the expectations around the team this season, and if he feels different compared to last year (as an example) in terms of what is expected now. Campbell ga
"No I don't. See, now you put that into words, no...I don't think about, 'Man, we're the one seed, so if you guys don't succeed, then —' I never think like that. I don't know, to me, I look at it as like — I know how who we are. I know what we're about. I know how we have to prepare," Campbell said. "I respect the opponent, and now it's time to go to work. That's how I look at it."
"I don't look at anything else", Campbell continued. "I don't think of, 'What if it doesn't?' The what ifs, like f**k man, I couldn't sleep at night if I lived that way. There's no freakin' way. We're the one seed, we earned the one seed. We've got a good opponent coming in, and we're gonna be ready to play."
The question starts at the 4:40 mark of the video below, and Campbell gets to the word that is NSFW at about the 5:33 mark.
It's no surprise Campbell didn't flinch when presented with the idea the Lions have more pressure on them as the No. 1 seed. He won't let it enter his thoughts, and as usual Campbell's mindset will easily filter down to the players as they focus on the upcoming opponent over all else.
