Things went very well for the Detroit Lions on Monday night, but Dan Campbell has one regret.
It wasn’t until his postgame news conference that Campbell was informed his quarterback, Jared Goff, had gone a perfect 18 for 18 on pass attempts in the game. Had Campbell known that information earlier, he said that he probably would have made a change with his game ball selection, per Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.
“Well, I just gave the game ball to somebody else, so I feel awful right now,” Campbell said. “I knew he played a heck of a game. I did not realize he was perfect. I did not know he was literally 18 for 18. But I knew he played really well. You could feel it.”
Reporter: “Can you talk about Jared Goff’s performance? He was a perfect 18-for-18.”

Goff went 18-for-18 passing for 292 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught a touchdown pass on a trick play.
Not only did the Lions get a perfect passing game from their quarterback, but they also rushed for 116 yards and three touchdowns (two by Jahmyr Gibbs and one by David Montgomery).
Detroit’s 42-point outburst was their highest total of the season. The Lions are 3-1 through four weeks.
There was a lot about the win to celebrate so Campbell shouldn’t feel too badly about not giving Goff the game ball.
